OUR BUDGET

How To Feed An Artist is an Independent feature length documentary, meaning we are fundraising throughout the entirety of our project. We are fiscally sponsored by The Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County, meaning all donations to us are eligible as a tax write off. Our film has been primarily funded by the community, something we are extremely proud of.

Artistic Contributions

What the heck is this?!!?!?!

A critically important part of our documentary, in our opinion, is the expression and talent from the artists of Winston-Salem and beyond.

We are raising funds to PAY artists to create and contribute something that will appear in our film as a scene. Artists may receive a small prompt, a motive, or a completely blank page to create whatever they want.

They may choose to make a dance number, or an animation, or something we can’t even imagine.

Our goal is to support the artistic community by including their voice, and paying them for their involvement.

Production

Production is when we actually film the documentary — capturing interviews, real moments, and all the visuals that bring the story to life. It covers everything from camera crews and sound equipment to lighting, travel, and location costs. This is the part where all the planning starts turning into real footage. It’s one of the most exciting and intense phases of the filmmaking process.

Post Production Things:

  • footage processing

  • hundreds of hours of editing

  • animation

  • color grading

  • music & sound effects

Post Production

Post-production is where the story truly takes shape. We sort through hundreds of hours of footage to find the most powerful, meaningful, weird moments. This phase includes editing, sound design, music, and color correction to craft a final film that feels seamless and emotional. It’s an incredibly detailed, creative process that brings all the raw pieces together into a finished story.

Marketing

Marketing helps make sure our documentary actually reaches an audience. It covers everything from a social media presence, running ads, submitting to festivals, and hosting our premiere party in Winston-Salem. For an independent film like ours, strong marketing is essential to build excitement, attract viewers, and open new opportunities. It's how we give the story the life and impact it deserves beyond the editing room.
